In detail
About This Course
The PADI Underwater Videographer Specialty Instructor course trains you to organise, promote and teach the Underwater Videographer Specialty Diver course, giving you the tools to help your students capture their underwater world on camera. Over one day at Diving Academy, the course covers how to teach camera handling, buoyancy control while filming, lighting and composition, and basic editing considerations, always with an eye on how to present these skills clearly to divers who may never have picked up a video camera underwater before.
Because good underwater videography depends as much on diving skill as on camera technique, teaching it well means reinforcing trim, buoyancy and awareness alongside the creative side of the specialty. You will gain teaching tips and hands-on experience direct from your local PADI Course Director, helping you build sessions that keep students both safe and creatively engaged in the water.
Entry requires PADI Assistant Instructor, instructor-candidate-in-training, or PADI Divemaster status, and as with several specialties, some additional prerequisites may apply depending on your background - Diving Academy can confirm exactly what you will need before you book.
Underwater Videographer Instructor also counts toward the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating, which requires at least five specialty instructor certifications. It is a popular specialty to teach given how many divers now want to document their dives, and a rewarding one for instructors who enjoy the creative side of the sport.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Camera Handling & Storytelling Teaching
You learn to coach the fundamentals a new videographer needs: steady camera handling while managing buoyancy, plus the basics of exposure, focus, storyline and sequencing that turn random clips into a watchable dive video.
PADI's diver-level Underwater Videographer course covers exposure, focus, storyline and sequencing, plus selecting and maintaining video equipment

Step 2
Editing & Certification
You also cover how to guide students through editing their footage, in-camera and in post-production, so they leave with a finished video rather than a memory card of raw clips. Complete the course and you're certified to teach Underwater Videographer at your own centre.
