In detail
About This Course
Tec 45 Instructor is where technical diving instruction moves beyond recreational limits, training the next generation of divers who want to explore wrecks, deep reefs and marine life that recreational depths simply cannot reach. Over seven days, this course prepares experienced instructors to teach open-circuit technical diving safely, rigorously and to the standard that this level of diving demands.
The training covers how to plan, supervise and teach dives that go beyond recreational no-decompression limits, working with enriched air and full technical configurations. Because technical diving carries real consequences for getting things wrong, the course places heavy emphasis on the judgement, risk management and teaching discipline needed to bring students through decompression diving safely and confidently.
This is an advanced professional qualification, and the prerequisites reflect that. Candidates need to hold PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor or higher, along with PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty Instructor and PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor ratings, plus twenty five EANx dives deeper than 30m/100ft and Tec 45 Diver certification, including ten decompression dives in full technical equipment. Application also requires having certified twenty five divers and logged one hundred and fifty dives, twenty of them decompression dives deeper than 30m/100ft.
For instructors who have built up this level of experience, Tec 45 Instructor is a genuine milestone, opening the door to teaching technical diving properly and giving your students access to a much bigger, more demanding underwater world.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Instructor-Level Tec Theory
You push your own decompression theory, gas management and deep-diving knowledge to instructor standard, ready to teach divers heading past recreational limits. It's the academic backbone that supports everything practical that follows.
PADI states: candidates need 150 logged dives, including 20 decompression dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet, before applying.

Step 2
Teaching Practicum
You take charge of confined and open water sessions, running the skills and procedures a Tec 45 student needs to master. Your trainer refines your briefings, demonstrations and problem-solving until your teaching is as sharp as your diving.

Step 3
Instructor Exam & Certification
The week closes with a formal instructor exam. Once you've passed, you're certified to run Discover Tec experiences and teach the Tec Basics, Tec 40 and Tec 45 Diver courses.
PADI states: Tec 45 Instructors are qualified to teach the Tec Basics, Tec 40 and Tec 45 Diver courses.
