About This Course
The Tec 45 Trimix Instructor course is a professional-level program for experienced technical instructors ready to extend their teaching into helium-based trimix diving. Run over an intensive week, it qualifies you to teach the full early TecRec pathway, including Tec Basics, Tec 40, Tec 40 Trimix, Tec 45 and Tec 45 Trimix Diver courses.
Because candidates arrive already holding significant technical qualifications and experience, the course focuses squarely on teaching ability rather than personal diving skill. You will work through detailed knowledge development on trimix theory and PADI TecRec standards, then move into supervised teaching practice, presenting knowledge sections and running confined and open water training dives for your fellow candidates.
Assessment covers your ability to plan lessons accurately, brief and debrief technical dives clearly, manage gas and decompression planning discussions with students, and maintain the rigorous safety culture that technical diving depends on. Instructor trainers and evaluators give direct feedback throughout, refining your teaching until it meets PADI's exacting standards.
The course concludes with the Tec Diver Trimix Instructor Exam. Pass, and you join a small, specialised group of instructors qualified to guide the next generation of technical divers safely into deeper, more demanding diving.

How The Course Works
Step 1
Trimix Instructor Standards
With your Tec 45 instructor credentials already in hand, you extend your knowledge into trimix theory and instructor-level gas planning. It's the material that lets you teach divers safely past the limits of enriched air alone.
PADI states: candidates need a Tec 50 Trimix Diver certification (or higher) and at least 10 logged trimix dives.
Step 2
Trimix Teaching Practicum
You lead confined and open water sessions built around trimix procedures, from gas switches to contingency planning, with your trainer watching every briefing and demonstration. It's where the theory turns into teaching instinct.
Step 3
Trimix Instructor Exam & Certification
After the Tec Diver Trimix Instructor exam, you come away qualified to teach the entire early TecRec pathway, from Tec Basics right through to Tec 45 Trimix Diver.
PADI states: Tec 45 Trimix Instructors are authorised to teach Tec Basics, Tec 40, Tec 40 Trimix, Tec 45 and Tec 45 Trimix Diver courses.
