In detail
About This Course
The PADI Advanced Freediving Instructor course is the next professional milestone for instructors who have already earned their PADI Freediver Instructor rating and want to teach at a higher level. It is a demanding, seven day programme built around one clear goal: preparing you to confidently and safely certify PADI Advanced Freedivers.
Because this is an instructor-level qualification, the course goes well beyond simply repeating advanced apnea and open water technique. You will work on how to teach depth-focused freediving skills, how to coach students through the mental and physical demands of deeper, longer dives, and how to run advanced training sessions that keep every participant safe.
Safety sits at the centre of everything covered here. You will refine your ability to supervise buddy pairs at depth, manage rescue scenarios specific to advanced freediving, and instil the discipline and self-awareness that advanced freedivers need to progress responsibly.
By the end of the course you will be authorised to teach the full PADI Advanced Freediver curriculum, adding a genuinely sought-after qualification to your instructor portfolio and opening the door to working with more experienced freediving students.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Proving Your Track Record
Before you can move up, PADI wants to see you have already put in the teaching hours. You need a solid certification history as a Freediver Instructor and current EFR Primary and Secondary Care training behind you, so the foundations are properly in place before you take on deeper, more demanding disciplines.
PADI states candidates must have certified at least 25 PADI Freedivers and completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months.

Step 2
Advanced Disciplines, Advanced Teaching
This is where you build the skill set to safely coach divers into deeper, more technical freediving disciplines. You refine your own performance under a Course Director's eye while learning how to plan sessions, manage risk and bring students along safely as depths and demands increase.

Step 3
Instructor Evaluation
Your teaching is put to the test under direct supervision before the rating is signed off. Once you are through, you are recognised as an instructor who can take freedivers well beyond entry level - a genuinely sought-after credential in the freediving world.
