What to expect

Emergency First Response: CPR and AED

When someone collapses in front of you, the difference between panic and action is training, and this focused half-day course gives you exactly that. You'll build real muscle memory on training manikins for chest compressions and rescue breaths, then practise with an AED trainer until it feels familiar. Not just for divers, parents, coaches and workplace first aiders all walk away with a worldwide-recognised certification that could genuinely save a life.

About This Course

When someone's heart stops, what happens in the first few minutes matters more than almost anything else. The Emergency First Response CPR and AED course is a compact, practical programme built around exactly those first critical minutes, teaching you to recognise cardiac arrest, start effective CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator safely.

Rather than sitting through hours of theory, the course is built around hands-on practice. You will work with training manikins to build real muscle memory for chest compressions and rescue breaths, and practice with an AED trainer unit so the process feels familiar rather than intimidating if you are ever faced with the real thing.

This course suits absolutely anyone, not just divers. Parents, coaches, gym-goers, workplace first aiders, and travellers all benefit from having these skills on hand, and no prior first aid experience or fitness level is required to take part. Certification is recognised worldwide and is typically renewed every two years to keep skills sharp.

At Diving Academy it also sits naturally alongside our other Emergency First Response and PADI Rescue Diver training, so it is a great starting point if you want to build toward a fuller first aid and emergency response skill set.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

    Online Fundamentals

Start with a short, self-paced online lesson covering how to recognise cardiac arrest and the basics of stepping in to help. You can complete it whenever suits you, before you ever pick up a training manikin.

  2. Step 2

    Hands-On CPR and AED Practice

Build genuine muscle memory on a training manikin, practising both hands-only and traditional CPR alongside using an AED. By the end you'll be ready to step in confidently if someone collapses in front of you.

PADI states this streamlined course typically runs 2.5 to 4 hours, and notes it does not meet the first aid/CPR requirement for PADI Rescue Diver or Divemaster.
