About This Course

Gas blending sits right at the technical end of diving, and properly qualified blenders are always in demand. The PADI Gas Blender Instructor course exists to help meet that need, training experienced tec professionals to teach others how to blend breathing gases safely and correctly rather than simply blend gas themselves.

As a Tec Gas Blender Instructor, you'll finish the course with a thorough understanding of the differences between the gases used in technical diving - how they behave, where the risks lie, and how blending errors can have serious consequences - and, crucially, the ability to explain that critical safety information clearly to the divers and blenders you go on to train. It's as much about instilling the right habits and respect for the process as it is about the chemistry itself.

Because this sits at the instructor level of the TecRec pathway, the entry requirements are correspondingly serious: you'll need to already hold PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification, PADI Enriched Air Instructor certification, and PADI Tec Gas Blender certification before you can enrol.

For technical instructors looking to round out their qualifications, Gas Blender Instructor is a natural and valuable addition - it lets you support your tec students right through to the point where they're safely mixing their own gas, rather than having to send that side of their training elsewhere.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

    Arrive Already Qualified

This one sits at the sharp end of the TecRec pathway, so you walk in already holding your Enriched Air Instructor rating and your own Tec Gas Blender certification. There's no shortcut around it - PADI treats gas blending as too safety-critical to hand over lightly.

PADI requires Gas Blender Instructor applicants to already be a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, a PADI Enriched Air Instructor, and a certified PADI Tec Gas Blender diver.

  2. Step 2

Teaching Practicum at the Blending Station

Training turns your own blending experience into a teachable process - explaining gas analysis and blending methods clearly enough that a student could repeat them safely under supervision. Qualified blenders are genuinely hard to find, so this specialty puts you in demand the moment you're certified.
