Tec 50 Trimix Instructor
This is the course for instructors who already live and breathe technical diving and are ready to teach at the very top of the TecRec pathway, qualifying you to run the entire trimix curriculum. Reserved for instructors with Deep Diver and Enriched Air ratings and a Tec 50 Trimix Diver certification, an intensive week centred on the Tec Diver Trimix Instructor Course and Exam assesses your ability to plan, brief and troubleshoot every course in the lineup.

About This Course
The Tec 50 Trimix Instructor course sits near the top of the PADI TecRec professional pathway, qualifying experienced technical instructors to teach the full range of trimix and deep technical courses. It is a demanding, detail-focused program reserved for instructors who already hold significant technical diving experience.
Before starting, candidates need an already substantial technical background, including Deep Diver and Enriched Air Instructor ratings, a Tec 50 Trimix Diver certification of their own, and a meaningful number of logged decompression and trimix dives in full technical configuration. The course itself centres on the Tec Diver Trimix Instructor Course and exam, examining both the technical knowledge and the teaching judgment required at this level.
Across roughly a week of intensive training, you will be assessed on your ability to plan, brief, supervise and troubleshoot the full spectrum of TecRec courses, from the introductory Tec Basics program through Tec 40, Tec 40 Trimix, Tec 45, Tec 45 Trimix, Tec 50 and finally Tec 50 Trimix itself.
Successfully completing this course authorizes you to teach every course in that lineup, placing you among a small group of instructors qualified to guide divers through the most demanding stages of recreational technical training.
The process
How The Course Works
Step 1
Trimix Instructor Standards
Already established at Tec 50 Instructor level, you extend your theory into full trimix territory, covering gas planning and decompression strategy for the deepest end of the recreational technical pathway. It's the knowledge base for teaching the entire trimix curriculum.
PADI states: candidates need a Tec 50 Trimix Diver certification (or higher) and at least 10 logged trimix dives.
Step 2
Trimix Teaching Practicum
You lead confined and open water sessions covering trimix procedures across every level of the pathway, with your trainer coaching your briefings and demonstrations until they're instructor-sharp.
Step 3
Trimix Instructor Exam & Certification
The Tec Diver Trimix Instructor exam caps the course. Pass it, and you're qualified to teach the entire trimix curriculum, right to the top of the TecRec pathway.
