What to expect
Tec 45 Trimix
Ready to push your decompression diving further than Tec 40 allowed? This next serious step on the TecRec pathway runs over two focused days, teaching you to plan single and repetitive decompression dives using a dedicated deco cylinder with up to 100 percent oxygen, plus an introduction to double cylinders. Certification extends your depth limit to 45 metres, opening up a wider range of wrecks and sites than recreational limits allow.
In detail
About This Course
PADI Tec 45 is the second step in the PADI TecRec technical diving pathway, extending divers beyond the limits of Tec 40 into more demanding decompression diving. Run over two days at Diving Academy, it builds directly on the skills, discipline and equipment configuration introduced in Tec 40.
Divers learn to plan and execute single and repetitive decompression dives, using a single decompression cylinder containing up to one hundred percent oxygen for accelerated deco stops. The course also introduces diving with double cylinders, in either back mount or sidemount configuration, giving divers the redundancy and gas management skills technical diving demands.
With these skills in place, certified Tec 45 divers can extend their depth limit to forty five metres, a significant step beyond recreational limits that opens up a wider range of wrecks and dive sites.
Tec 45 sits between Tec 40 and Tec 50 in the PADI technical diving progression, and is the natural next step for divers who have enjoyed the discipline of Tec 40 and want to keep building toward full Tec 50 certification.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Trimix Gas Planning
You extend your decompression skills to analysing and planning around helium-based blends, working within tightly defined limits on oxygen, helium and decompression time. It is a focused addition that sharpens your gas planning rather than overhauling it.

Step 2
Trimix Dives
You then take that planning underwater, completing training dives on a trimix blend within your existing depth range. The result is the same decompression ceiling, reached with less narcosis and a clearer head throughout.
Reported structure: training dives on a trimix blend of at least 21% oxygen and up to 20% helium, with planned decompression no longer than 20 minutes
