What to expect
Tec 45
Tec 45 is where technical diving stops being a phrase and starts being real. Building on Tec 40, this two-day course pushes your maximum depth to 45 metres, immersing you in extended decompression procedures and gas planning. Run as a combined Tec 45 and Tec 45 Trimix package, you can add an optional trimix upgrade, arriving ready and leaving set up directly for Tec 50, the next stage of the pathway.
In detail
About This Course
Tec 45 is where technical diving really starts to feel like technical diving. Building directly on Tec 40, this course extends your maximum operating depth to 45 metres or 150 feet, introducing the extended decompression procedures, gas planning and equipment configuration that come with diving significantly beyond recreational limits. It's a genuine commitment - both in the training itself and in what it demands of you as a diver going in.
We run Tec 45 as a combined Tec 45 and Tec 45 Trimix Diver package, so alongside the core air/nitrox syllabus there's the option to add a trimix upgrade, bringing in two additional trimix training dives for divers who want to start managing helium in their gas mix from the outset. It's a sensible way to structure the training if trimix is somewhere on your horizon, since you're already deep in the planning mindset the course demands.
The entry requirements reflect the seriousness of the diving involved: you'll need to hold PADI Tec 40 Diver and PADI Rescue Diver certifications, proof of CPR and first aid training within the previous two years, and a minimum of 50 logged dives, at least 10 of them deeper than 30 metres or 100 feet. You'll also need to be at least 18 years old and provide a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire signed off by a physician within the last 12 months.
Delivered over two days, Tec 45 is a serious but rewarding step for committed divers, and it sets you up directly for Tec 50, the next stage of the PADI TecRec pathway.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Knowledge Development
Building on Tec 40, you go further into decompression theory, emergency response and the mindset of working as a genuine technical diving team. The margin for error narrows as the depth grows, and this is where that reality is drilled home.

Step 2
Practical Application
You rehearse planning single and repetitive decompression dives using a dedicated stage cylinder, right up to pure oxygen for your shallow stops. Every drill is designed to make the unfamiliar feel routine before you rely on it at depth.

Step 3
Training Dives
You then take it all to 45 metres with your instructor, executing the decompression dives you have planned and handling the procedures you have rehearsed. It is a genuine step up from Tec 40, and it feels like one.
PADI states: extends your depth limit to 45 metres/150 feet; prerequisites include a minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 10 deeper than 30 metres
