What to expect
Master Scuba Diver Trainer
Master Scuba Diver Trainer marks you out as one of the most versatile teachers in the dive industry, and this is the route that gets you there. Rather than a single syllabus, MSDT status is built by earning five or more Specialty Instructor certifications, with hands-on mentoring refining not just what you teach but how. The only real requirement is an active PADI Instructor rating, after which it's about breadth and depth.
In detail
About This Course
Master Scuba Diver Trainer, or MSDT, is one of the most respected milestones a PADI Instructor can reach, marking you out as a specialist teacher across a genuinely wide range of specialty courses. It is designed specifically for experienced PADI Instructors who want to expand what they can offer students and strengthen their standing within the dive industry.
Rather than being a single fixed syllabus, MSDT status is earned by building up your specialty teaching credentials until you hold five or more PADI Specialty Instructor certifications, alongside the certification numbers required at instructor level. Throughout the process you get genuinely hands-on experience and mentoring from experienced professionals, helping you refine not just what you teach but how you teach it, across whichever specialties suit your interests and your local diving conditions.
The only prerequisite is holding an active PADI Instructor rating with a reasonable amount of teaching experience already under your belt; from there, the path to MSDT is really about breadth and depth of specialty teaching rather than a single exam to pass.
Training is offered at our Reading location, giving working instructors a genuinely flexible route to fit specialty teaching around their existing commitments.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Build Your Specialty Portfolio
Rather than sitting a single course, you work toward MSDT by qualifying as a Specialty Instructor in a spread of different areas, each one widening what you can offer students. It is a route built on the specialties you already love teaching, not a fixed syllabus.
PADI states: instructors need at least five PADI Specialty Instructor certifications to qualify as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer.

Step 2
Certify Divers Along the Way
Alongside those specialties, you keep teaching and certifying divers until you reach the experience threshold PADI sets for this rating. Hit both marks and MSDT status is yours - recognition that you can deliver the full range of training a diver needs.
PADI states: candidates must have certified at least 25 PADI Divers.
