What to expect
Equipment Specialist
Ever had a dive nearly ruined by a snapped fin strap or a leaking o-ring you had no idea how to fix? This course puts an end to that. In one hands-on day you'll get a working understanding of how your regulator, BCD, mask and exposure suit function, then move into practical repair skills: replacing o-rings, patching small wetsuit tears and fixing fin straps. Pays for itself the first time you fix your own gear.
In detail
About This Course
Most divers rely on their equipment every dive without really understanding how it works, until something goes wrong at an inconvenient moment. The PADI Equipment Specialist course fixes that, giving you a genuine working knowledge of your gear alongside practical skills for keeping it in good condition.
Knowledge development sessions cover how the major pieces of scuba equipment function, from regulators and BCDs to masks, fins and exposure suits, explaining the engineering behind the gear you already use every dive. Understanding how something works makes it far easier to spot a problem before it becomes serious.
The practical side of the course is hands-on and immediately useful. You will learn basic equipment repairs and adjustments, replacing o-rings, patching small wetsuit tears, fixing fin straps and other simple fixes that can otherwise end a dive trip early, all skills you can apply to your own gear long after the course finishes.
It's a compact, practical specialty that pays for itself the first time you sort out a gear problem yourself instead of missing a dive, and it fits naturally alongside other Speciality courses on the way to Master Scuba Diver.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Gear Care & Troubleshooting
You'll get a proper working understanding of your equipment - how to care for it, store it correctly and fix the common problems that ruin dives, from a snapped fin strap to a leaking o-ring. Your instructor also shares configuration tips that make your kit sit and perform better.

Step 2
Hands-On Equipment Trial
Depending on your centre, you may get in the water to try out equipment you're less familiar with, putting your new fixes and configuration ideas straight to the test. It's a hands-on day that leaves you far less dependent on anyone else to sort your gear out.
