In detail
About This Course
The PADI Divemaster course is where diving stops being just a hobby and starts becoming a profession. As the first level of PADI professional training, it prepares you to supervise diving activities, assist instructors in training programs and lead certified divers safely and confidently on guided dives.
Training combines eLearning covering risk management, diver safety and the aquatic environment with hands-on workshops in deep diving and search and recovery, alongside swim test assessments and repeated practice of rescue skills until they become second nature. Throughout the course you will work alongside instructors, building the practical judgment that only comes from real teaching and supervision experience.
By the end you will be comfortable leading underwater tours, briefing divers before a dive, mapping and managing dive sites, and assisting with scuba classes. Many Divemasters also go on to teach PADI ReActivate refresher, snorkeling and ocean conservation programs, giving you a genuine head start in the diving industry.
Typically completed over around two weeks of focused, immersive training, the Divemaster course rewards commitment with a rating respected throughout the dive industry, and it is the essential stepping stone to becoming a PADI Instructor.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Knowledge Development
Through classroom sessions and independent study, you work through dive theory, dive leadership and the business side of running PADI programmes. It is the thinking behind the diving, and it underpins every decision you will make as a professional.

Step 2
Water Skills and Stamina
A series of swim tests and stamina exercises push your fitness and comfort in the water well beyond recreational diver level. These aren't box-ticking - they are the baseline every dive professional needs once someone else's safety is in their hands.

Step 3
Dive Leadership in Action
You rack up real experience leading certified divers and solving problems on the fly, logging your way from 40 dives up to the 60 needed to qualify. This is where the course stops being theory and starts being the job.
PADI states: you need 40 logged dives to start the Divemaster course and 60 logged dives to earn the certification.

Step 4
Certified and Ready to Lead
You finish equipped to lead certified divers, teach the PADI ReActivate refresher and run snorkelling and ocean conservation programmes. It is the first rung of the professional ladder, and from here every path in the dive industry opens up.
