Course overview
What to expect
Compressor Awareness Instructor
Every dive starts with a good fill, yet most divers, and plenty of instructors, have no real idea what happens inside a compressor first. This course qualifies you to teach this often-overlooked specialty, turning compressor operation, maintenance and air quality standards into lessons that are clear and practical, another compact, high-value step toward Master Scuba Diver Trainer status.
In detail
About This Course
Compressors sit at the heart of every dive operation, yet many divers and even instructors know surprisingly little about how they work or what can go wrong. The PADI Compressor Awareness Specialty Instructor course, delivered over one day at Diving Academy, qualifies you to pass that knowledge on by teaching the Compressor Awareness Specialty to your own students.
The course focuses on the instructional side of the topic: how to structure lessons around compressor operation, maintenance basics, air quality standards and the safety checks divers should expect from any fill station. You will look at how to make a fairly technical subject accessible and genuinely interesting for recreational divers, using real-world examples and clear explanations rather than dense theory.
To enrol you need to hold a PADI Instructor rating, or be currently enrolled in or have recently completed an IDC or OWSI within the past twelve months. As with all PADI Specialty Instructor courses, you can expect hands-on teaching tips you can put into practice right away, rather than purely theoretical training.
Once certified, you can run the Compressor Awareness Specialty independently, giving your students a better understanding of the air they are breathing and giving you another specialty toward Master Scuba Diver Trainer status. It is a compact, practical addition to any instructor's teaching credentials at Diving Academy in Reading.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Compressor Fundamentals for Teaching
You work through how a dive centre's compressor actually works - filtration, fill procedures and basic safety checks - so you can explain it clearly to divers and staff who have only ever seen the finished result: a full tank.
