About This Course

The AWARE Specialist Instructor course prepares PADI professionals to deliver one of diving's most purposeful specialties: the PADI AWARE Specialist Specialty, which focuses on marine conservation education and sustainable diving practices. As ocean health becomes an increasingly central concern for divers of all levels, instructors who can teach this specialty are able to offer something beyond skills training - a genuine platform for conservation awareness.

This is an instructor-level course, open to those who already hold a PADI Instructor rating, or who are currently enrolled in or have completed an IDC or OWSI programme within the last 12 months. Training focuses on how to structure and deliver the AWARE Specialist course to student divers, covering topics such as sustainable dive practices, citizen science opportunities, and how divers can act as advocates for the underwater environment.

Once qualified, instructors gain free access to teaching materials through the PADI AWARE Online Teaching Hub, making it straightforward to plan and run the specialty without needing to source additional resources. It fits naturally alongside other specialty instructor ratings and adds meaningful depth to an instructor's teaching portfolio.

The process

How The Course Works

Step 1
eLearning First
You work through the PADI AWARE Specialist material in your own time before the in-person side even begins, covering the practical, everyday actions that actually shift ocean health.
PADI states the course is supported by PADI eLearning ahead of an in-person Take Action workshop.
Step 2
The Take Action Workshop
In a single focused session, you work through PADI's Ten Tips to Save the Ocean with your students, turning good intentions into concrete actions they can actually follow through on. Once you are qualified, teaching it is open to you from Assistant Instructor level upward.
PADI states every PADI Assistant Instructor and higher can teach this course, with a typical session running about two hours.
