What to expect

PADI Advanced Rebreather Diver

Ready to take your rebreather diving somewhere your open circuit buddies cannot follow? This is where the recreational depth ceiling disappears, training you to descend to 40 metres with real planning and precision. Over one intensive day you'll master your unit's scrubber duration and oxygen consumption as margins tighten with depth, and configure a proper bailout cylinder system, a defining milestone within PADI's TecRec pathway.

About This Course

Once you are comfortable on a rebreather within recreational depth limits, the Advanced Rebreather Diver course is the next step for pushing that range further, training you to dive as deep as 40 metres or 130 feet with the extra planning and discipline that depth demands.

A major part of the course is understanding your unit's scrubber duration and oxygen consumption at greater depth, since the margins for error naturally shrink the deeper you go. You will also work through how to configure and carry a bailout cylinder system properly, so you always have a reliable open circuit backup if the rebreather itself needs to be abandoned.

Training combines instructor-led theory sessions with unit-specific practical work and a progressive series of open water training dives, building depth and complexity gradually so skills and confidence develop together rather than being rushed.

This course sits within PADI's TecRec programme and is a key milestone for rebreather divers looking to move toward more serious technical diving, including further Tec Rebreather training down the line.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

    Beyond Basic Rebreather Diving

You dig into scrubber duration, oxygen consumption and bailout planning, including how to configure a proper bailout cylinder system for when things do not go to plan. Silent diving technique comes into its own here, letting you get closer to marine life than open circuit ever could.

  2. Step 2

    Diving to 40 Metres

With that planning locked in, you extend your rebreather diving down to 40 metres, well past where standard rebreather certification stops, and put your extended no-stop times to proper use. You will need PADI Deep Diver certification first if you want to push past 30 metres along the way.

PADI states: training extends to 40 metres/130 feet, and requires PADI Rebreather Diver certification, 30 logged dives and a minimum age of 18
