About This Course

Discover Scuba Diving sessions are, for a lot of people, their very first breath underwater - and the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Leader course is about making sure that first experience is handled by someone properly trained to do it. It's designed specifically for Divemasters who want to introduce complete beginners to diving in a way that's safe, well structured, and doesn't rely on an instructor being present for every session.

Through practical training at our Reading centre, you'll learn how to plan and run a Discover Scuba Diving experience from start to finish, working within PADI standards throughout - covering everything from the confined water introduction and essential safety briefing to reading how a first-time participant is coping and adapting the session accordingly.

Being able to lead these sessions independently is a genuinely useful string to a Divemaster's bow. It opens up more responsibility and more variety day to day, and gives dive centres the flexibility to offer try-dive experiences without always needing to schedule an instructor.

To join the course you'll need to already hold a PADI Divemaster certification, since the whole programme is built specifically for divers at that level. If you're a Divemaster looking to broaden what you can offer and take a genuine step up in responsibility, this is a practical, focused course that does exactly that.

The process

How The Course Works

Step 1
Four Real Sessions, Not Simulations
You run four genuine Discover Scuba Diving programmes in confined water, briefing, supervising and debriefing complete beginners while your instructor watches on. There is no faking it here - every session is with real first-timers experiencing scuba for the very first time.
PADI states: candidates must conduct four separate real (not simulated) Discover Scuba Diving programmes in confined water under an instructor's direct supervision.
Step 2
Proving You Can Run It Solo
A final knowledge assessment checks that your briefings, in-water supervision and debriefs are sharp enough to be trusted without an instructor standing over every session. Pass it, and you are qualified to introduce total newcomers to diving on your own.
