Once you turn 18, everything you've earned carries straight forward into the full Divemaster course.
In detail
About This Course
The Junior Divemaster course gives younger divers a genuine head start on a career in diving, letting 15 to 17 year olds begin working through Divemaster-level training well before they reach the minimum age to certify as a full Divemaster. It is a meaningful qualification in its own right, not just a placeholder.
Training covers real dive-site setup and management skills, alongside dive theory delivered through eLearning and a formal exam, giving young divers the same academic grounding as their adult counterparts. Practical sessions build genuinely useful leadership skills, including how to give a clear, confident dive briefing.
A dive site mapping project puts planning and observation skills to the test, while training in creating an emergency assistance plan and working through search and rescue scenarios builds the calm, practical judgment that underpins good dive leadership at any age.
Completed in a single day, the Junior Divemaster course is designed for committed young divers with real diving experience behind them. Once they turn 18, graduates can go on to complete the remainder of the full Divemaster course, carrying this training forward into a professional-level rating.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Divemaster-Level Theory
You work through PADI Divemaster eLearning and dive theory alongside candidates years older than you, covering the same knowledge base professionals rely on. It is a genuine academic step up from Rescue Diver, not a watered-down version built for your age.

Step 2
Planning & Problem-Solving
You take on a full dive site mapping project and work through search and recovery and diver rescue scenarios, the kind of exercises that force you to think like a dive professional under pressure. These are not tick-box drills - you are expected to perform them to the same standard as an adult Divemaster candidate.

Step 3
Supporting the Dive Team
Under an instructor's direct supervision, you help with dive site set-up and management, deliver briefings and demonstrate skills to other students. It is real responsibility within real limits - you are contributing to the team, not yet leading it.

Step 4
Ready for Eighteen
You finish as a certified Junior Divemaster with a genuine head start, but the rating comes with a clear boundary until your eighteenth birthday. From that day, you can complete the remaining requirements to upgrade to full PADI Divemaster and start working as a professional.
PADI states: candidates must be at least 15 with Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver and 20 logged dives; full Divemaster upgrade at 18 requires at least 40 logged dives
