Course overview
What to expect
Gas Blender
Every safe enriched air or trimix fill starts with someone at the blending station who genuinely knows what they're doing, and this one-day course is where you become that person. You'll get hands-on with real blending equipment, working through the calculations, procedures and safety culture behind mixing blends that are fit for purpose every time, a skill genuinely valued anywhere technical or enriched air diving happens.
In detail
About This Course
Every enriched air or trimix fill starts with someone who knows exactly what they are doing at the blending station, and this one-day course is where that competence begins. The PADI (Tec) Gas Blender Specialty teaches divers and diving professionals how to mix enriched air and trimix blends safely and accurately, covering the equipment, calculations and safety procedures involved in producing breathing gas that is fit for purpose every single time.
The course is hands-on, working directly with the kind of blending equipment and scuba cylinders you will encounter in a real fill station. You will cover the theory behind gas mixing, the practical steps of the blending process itself, and the safety culture that has to sit behind every fill, since mistakes at this stage carry serious consequences for the diver who ultimately breathes that gas.
It is aimed squarely at those working, or planning to work, with scuba cylinders in the Reading area, whether that is at a dive centre, a fill station or as part of a technical diving operation.
By the end of the day you will have the knowledge and hands-on confidence to blend gas safely and reliably, a genuinely valuable skill for any diver or professional working seriously in the technical or enriched air side of the sport.
The process
How The Course Works

Step 1
Blending Theory & Safety
You work through the science behind enriched air and helium-blend gases - gas laws, oxygen cleaning, contamination risks - so every fill you produce afterwards is one you'd trust with your own life. This is where the responsibility of the job actually sinks in.

Step 2
Hands-On at the Blending Station
Across three practical sessions you get real time at the blending station itself, working the methods used to produce accurate nitrox and trimix fills - no in-water dives involved, just focused, hands-on repetition until it's second nature. You need to already hold PADI Enriched Air Diver certification and be at least 18 to start.
PADI states: the course includes three practical application sessions and requires PADI Enriched Air Diver certification, minimum age 18; there are no dives.
