What to expect

Emergency Oxygen Provider

In a real dive emergency, the person who knows how to deliver oxygen quickly and correctly is the person who makes the difference, and this short course turns you into that person. No water sessions, no age restrictions. You'll learn to recognise the dive injuries where emergency oxygen genuinely helps, then practise setting up and delivering it until the steps feel instinctive, a natural building block toward Rescue Diver or Divemaster.

About This Course

The Emergency Oxygen Provider course, part of the Emergency First Response family, teaches a skill that can genuinely make the difference in a dive-related emergency: administering oxygen quickly and correctly. It is a short, focused course with no age restrictions and no water sessions required, making it accessible to divers, dive professionals and non-divers alike.

You will start by learning to recognise the range of scuba diving injuries and illnesses where emergency oxygen can help, from decompression illness to other breathing-related emergencies. Understanding why oxygen matters, and how quickly it should be given, sets the foundation for the practical training that follows.

Hands-on practice takes you through setting up and delivering emergency oxygen using standard equipment, building the confidence to act decisively rather than freezing in a real emergency. Instruction is kept practical and repetitive, so the steps become instinctive rather than something you have to think through under pressure.

Completed in a single session, this course is a valuable addition for any diver, and an expected component of training for those progressing toward Rescue Diver or Divemaster level, where the ability to respond confidently to emergencies becomes part of the job.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

    Knowledge Development

You'll learn to recognise the diving injuries and illnesses - decompression sickness and arterial gas embolisms among them - where emergency oxygen makes the real difference. No dive experience is assumed and no water sessions are involved.

  2. Step 2

    Hands-On Oxygen Delivery

Then it's straight into practising with the kit itself - assembling and disassembling emergency oxygen equipment and delivering it to a casualty with confidence. You leave ready to be the person who acts fast when it actually counts.
