About This Course

Emergency oxygen administration is one of the most valuable skills any diver can carry, and this specialty instructor course prepares you to teach it properly. Run as a one-day Specialty Instructor course, it focuses on how to organise, promote, and deliver the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty Diver course so that your students leave genuinely capable and calm under pressure, not just able to pass an assessment.

You will work through the practical side of teaching emergency oxygen delivery, including equipment set-up, recognising when oxygen is needed, and managing a scenario clearly and confidently in front of a class. Because some specialties carry additional prerequisites and exit requirements of their own, part of the course also covers how to check and communicate those to prospective students before they enrol.

To take the course, you need to hold PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or instructor-candidate status. Throughout the day you will pick up teaching tips and hands-on techniques that you can put into practice with your very next class, rather than theory you have to translate later.

Instructors training with us regularly add it early, given how directly it strengthens the safety culture of any dive team.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

    Come In Already Qualified

Before you can train to teach this specialty, you need to hold the Emergency Oxygen Provider rating yourself - proof you can already deliver the skill you're about to pass on. Most instructors already have it from their own Rescue Diver training, so it's usually a formality rather than a fresh hurdle.

PADI's application for this instructor rating requires you to already hold an Emergency Oxygen Provider certification, or a recognised equivalent.

  2. Step 2

Teaching Practicum With Your Course Director

Because the underlying course has no open water requirement, your training focuses entirely on how you present and practise the skills - assessing breathing, delivering oxygen, and handling complications - so students walk away genuinely capable. Get it signed off and you can run the course for anyone from new divers to boat crew and lifeguards.
