About This Course

Deep diving is one of the most requested specialties among certified divers keen to safely extend their depth range, and the Deep Diver Specialty Instructor course equips you to meet that demand. Over one focused day you will learn how to organise, promote, and run the PADI Deep Specialty Diver course to a consistently high standard, moving beyond simply knowing the material to actually teaching it well.

The course covers the practical realities of instructing at depth, from managing narcosis awareness and gas planning with students to structuring dives that build confidence progressively rather than rushing divers past their comfort zone. You will also look at how to present the value of deep training to divers who may not yet see why it matters, which is often the difference between a specialty that sits unused on a price list and one that regularly fills a class.

Entry is open to PADI Assistant Instructors, instructor candidates currently in training, and PADI Divemasters. There is also a direct application route for those who have already certified at least twenty-five divers and logged at least twenty dives specifically within the deep diving specialty area.

It is a natural addition for instructors training and working out of our Reading centre who want to broaden what they can confidently teach.

The process

How The Course Works

  1. Step 1

Teaching Craft with a Course Director

You train directly under a PADI Course Director, picking up hands-on techniques and teaching tips you can put to use straight away when you brief students on narcosis awareness, gas planning and deep-diving risk management.

PADI states: specialty instructor courses are best learned from a local PADI Course Director, who provides teaching tips and hands-on experience.

  2. Step 2

    Certification & MSDT Credit

Once you're signed off, you're rated to run the Deep Diver specialty independently, and it's one more tick towards the five specialty instructor ratings you need for Master Scuba Diver Trainer status.

PADI states: Master Scuba Diver Trainer requires at least five PADI Specialty Instructor certifications.
