In detail

About This Course

The Adaptive Techniques Mermaid course teaches experienced mermaid swimmers how to adjust equipment, teaching methods and in-water support so that people with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities can take part in mermaid swimming safely and confidently. It is a practical, hands-on specialty built around real teaching scenarios rather than theory alone.

You will look at how a monofin, buoyancy aid or fin harness can be modified for different bodies and abilities, and how simple changes to communication, pacing and skill progressions can open mermaid swimming up to a far wider range of participants. The emphasis throughout is on working with the individual in front of you, not applying a single fixed approach.

Time in the pool lets you put these adaptations into practice, working alongside a buddy or support swimmer and learning to read when extra caution, a different technique or additional safety cover is needed. You will leave with a genuinely useful toolkit rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

Whether you are a mermaid instructor wanting to welcome a broader range of students, or simply passionate about making the underwater world more accessible, this course gives you the confidence and skills to teach adaptively and inclusively.
